About ruqia abdi
Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, Ruqia Abdi attended the International Islamic University in Islamabad, Pakistan where she learned Arabic and Islamic Studies, and came to the United States as a refugee in 2000. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development from Walden University in 2016 and since then has worked as a tireless advocate for women and children, particularly in the Somali community. Her work helping immigrant parents find opportunities for their children has been featured in the Star Tribune, and she was recently nominated as a Minnesota Muslim Woman Shero by Reviving Sisterhood. Ruqia lives in the Twin Cities with her husband and three teenaged children.
